{"id":1742,"date":"2026-09-25T15:15:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-25T15:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webmediamall.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/25\/unicorn778-bangladeshs-rohingya-refugee-camps-become-increasingly-vulnerable-to-landslides-peluang-terburuk-saat-bermain-slot-online\/"},"modified":"2026-09-25T15:15:11","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T15:15:11","slug":"unicorn778-bangladeshs-rohingya-refugee-camps-become-increasingly-vulnerable-to-landslides-peluang-terburuk-saat-bermain-slot-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webmediamall.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/25\/unicorn778-bangladeshs-rohingya-refugee-camps-become-increasingly-vulnerable-to-landslides-peluang-terburuk-saat-bermain-slot-online\/","title":{"rendered":"UNICORN778 Bangladesh\u2019s Rohingya refugee camps become increasingly vulnerable to landslides Peluang Terburuk Saat Bermain Slot Online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"post-330815\">&#13;<\/p>\n<div class=\"bulletpoints-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"bulletpoints\">\n<ul>\n<li><em>Amid recurring landslides, a growing number of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh are being forced to adapt to increasingly limited camp space.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The refugee management authorities warn that expansions of Rohingya camps will accelerate further destruction of forests and biodiversity.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>A study recommends protection of the vulnerable hill slopes, but authorities cite fund shortages as a major obstacle.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><button class=\"content-expander\"><span>See All Key Ideas<\/span><\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/rrrc.gov.bd\/pages\/downloads\/6922dab1dbfbab28ce055c0a\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">report<\/a> by the Bangladeshi government, released on Sept. 16, more than 150,000 Rohingya people fleeing persecution in Myanmar have entered the country\u2019s 33 Rohingya camps in Teknaf and Ukhiya areas of <a href=\"https:\/\/data.unhcr.org\/en\/country\/bgd\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">Cox\u2019s Bazar<\/a> in the last few months.<\/p>\n<p>The camps, spread across roughly 24 square kilometers (9.2 square miles), officially host <a href=\"https:\/\/data.unhcr.org\/en\/country\/bgd\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">1,170,978<\/a> dwellers \u2014 more than (more than 124,300 people per square mile) \u2014 making the densely packed settlements increasingly congested and vulnerable to collapse as new arrivals continue to enter the limited space, according to the report by the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC).<\/p>\n<p>Several studies show that the camps, built on sandy hill slopes after large areas of reserved forest were cleared, are also highly vulnerable to natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, heavy monsoon downpours trigger landslides in Rohingya camps. But any expansion means destruction of new forests and hills, and Bangladesh cannot afford it anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Rohingya influx in 2017 initially caused a total <a href=\"https:\/\/files.acquia.undp.org\/public\/migration\/bd\/REIRI.pdf#page=51\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">destruction of 1,502 hectares (3,713 acres) of forest lands<\/a>\u00a0in Cox\u2019s Bazar to accommodate the makeshift refugee settlements.<\/p>\n<p>Two years later, the country\u2019s Forest Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailystar.net\/frontpage\/news\/rohingya-settlements-8000-acres-forests-razed-1815400\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">reported<\/a> that the Rohingya settlements severely damaged biodiversity and depleted more than 3,230 hectares (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailystar.net\/frontpage\/news\/rohingya-settlements-8000-acres-forests-razed-1815400\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">8,000 acres<\/a>) of reserved forest in Cox\u2019s Bazar.<\/p>\n<p>A 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10668-020-00792-0\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">study<\/a> that analyzed landscape changes in Ukhiya noted that slope cutting and road and stair construction in the elevated part of Kutupalong, the largest refugee camp network in the world, were increasing the risk of landslides and flooding across several camps.<\/p>\n<p>Mapping vulnerable slope units in the Kutupalong camps, a 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2667010025000915#bib0001\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">study<\/a> found that 109 of the 1,726 studied slope units had moderate-to-high landslide susceptibility before the Rohingya influx. Image by Sadiqur Rahman for Mongabay.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>New refugees strain fragile camps <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/documents1.worldbank.org\/curated\/en\/989741646064634353\/pdf\/Rohingya-Refugee-Camps-and-Forest-Loss-in-Cox-s-Bazar-Bangladesh-An-Inquiry-Using-Remote-Sensing-and-Econometric-Approaches.pdf#page=9\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">Cox\u2019s Bazar<\/a> is predominantly a floodplain, with a mean slope of about 4\u00b0 and an average elevation of 17 meters (56 feet) above global mean sea level.<\/p>\n<p>Its diverse geomorphological landscape includes flat floodplains, mudflats, dunes, tidal creeks, hillocks and sandy beaches.<\/p>\n<p>The landscape is also characterized by extensive forest areas, including protected forests designated as wildlife sanctuaries.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2666592122000427#!\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">2022 study<\/a>, which assessed rainfall-induced landslide risk in Cox\u2019s Bazar\u2019s Kutupalong camps, found that most slope failures occurred in residual soils and weathered silty sandstone.<\/p>\n<p>The study showed that the camps\u2019 landmass \u2014 underlain mainly by Tipam sandstone, Girujan clay and Dupi Tila formations of fluvial sandstone, clay and beach deposits \u2014 faces recurring landslides due to steep slopes caused by unplanned settlements with fragile bamboo and plastic shelters, heavy rainfall, and inadequate disaster-risk reduction measures.<\/p>\n<p>More than 3,100 landslide incidents were recorded across the Rohingya camps, affecting more than 73,000 people, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.undp.org\/bangladesh\/stories\/until-everyone-safe-early-warning-systems-strengthening-safety-and-resilience-coxs-bazar\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">between 2018 and 2025<\/a>. Image by Sadiqur Rahman for Mongabay.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>Slope stabilization needs funding <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The 2025 study recommended immediate stabilization of 287 slopes out of the 1,726 mapped slope units. It classified another 428 slope units as short-term priorities, while 505 are long-term priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Refugee relief and repatriation commissioner Mizanur said, \u201cFund shortages severely impact disaster risk management in the camps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The access, safety and disaster risk management program \u2014 coordinated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/rohingyaresponse.org\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">Rohingya Refugee Response<\/a> collective through government collaboration with international organizations \u2014 for the Rohingya camps was only 40% funded until July 2026, leaving a <a href=\"https:\/\/rohingyaresponse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Inter-Sector-Flash-Update-4.pdf#page=3\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">$23.2<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/rohingyaresponse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Inter-Sector-Flash-Update-4.pdf#page=3\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">\u2013<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/rohingyaresponse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Inter-Sector-Flash-Update-4.pdf#page=3\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">million shortfall<\/a> against its $38.8-million requirement, according to an official document.<\/p>\n<p>The wider Shelter and Camp Coordination Camp Management (SCCCM), also under the Rohingya Refugee Response, was 42% funded, with a further <a href=\"https:\/\/rohingyaresponse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Inter-Sector-Flash-Update-4.pdf#page=3\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">$73.9 million needed<\/a> for emergency slope stabilization, drainage, watershed management and other disaster-risk measures.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Banner image:<\/strong> Families are relocated due to flooding and landslides in the Balukhali Rohingya refugee camp in Cox\u2019s Bazar.
